Photo Backstory: This rustic old dock sits on the rocky pebble shore and overlooks the Puget Sound. The property this dock sits on was purchased by the Harrington family in the early 1900's and was the only way to reach the property until 1935. Scott Harrington built the dock in his 20's and loved the sea, the salt air and his dock. He was friendly with his neighbors, gave out fishing advice, suggestions on the best place to drop crab pots and could talk for hours about boats. I got the idea of capture this photo after chatting with him. The position of the sun provided the amazing color on the water and enough ambient light to capture the rustic condition of the wood. The morning mist, the cool air and the clouds all contributed to the atmosphere of the photo. The final touch was waiting for the right moment for a breeze to push the American flag out enough to capture some red and white stripes.

Unfortunately, Scott Harrington passed away in November, 2015. This photo was printed on metal and given to him as a gift about a month before then. The print was featured on the remembrance table at his memorial service.
